MY STORY

Unlike many of my peers, I didn’t grow up playing team sports. I competed in some individual sports such as cross country skiing, triathlons, and rock climbing, but was never passionate about them in a way that made me stick with them for longer than a couple years. This lack of passion lead me to develop the narrative that maybe I just wasn’t a “sporty” person. The day I stepped into my high school women’s fitness class, that all changed. It may have been the amazing teacher who was de-stigmatizing women in fitness and empowering us all through lifting weights, or the fact that I met my best friend in that class, but lifting quickly became my favourite hobby. Despite my track record, I have stuck with it for six years and have become exponentially more passionate about exercise over time.

Throughout my life I have experienced many injuries and chronic pain. I have scoliosis, patellar tendinopathy in both of my knees, joint pain in my hands from rock climbing, and have pulled my hamstring insertion. Long story short; I hit many obstacles on my journey. Through adapting exercises, education, and help from health professionals when necessary, I have been able to work around these injuries, ease most of my pain, and implement preventative exercise to discourage future injuries.

It is common to feel as though you may be starting too late, that you are not “sporty” enough, or that you are too prone to injury to exercise. Rest assured, none of that is true; exercise and resistance training are for everyone. I am here to help guide you; meet you whenever you are in your journey, and adapt with you to overcome the challenges along the way, together.
